Going Gluten-Free & How We Plan On Doing This – A New Adventure!

image

We are going gluten-free for this little cutie pie of mine. She suffers from many allergies, which causes sinus infections, which causes fever, and which causes her seizures. I’ve heard from friends and through online research that going gluten-free could actually help her allergies because her body wouldn’t be fighting the gluten in her system, but the actual allergens that give her so much trouble.

Basically I’m tired of her being on allergy medicines morning and night, and I want her to feel healthy. So here we go on this journey of gluten free and a low sugar diet, or should I say lifestyle.

image

I remembered from a few weeks ago that the 99 Cent Store had some gluten-free products, so I went this morning and they had more than I thought! We found Udi’s Gluten-Free Dinner Rolls and Tortillas. Plus I found Glutino Bread.

I have several gluten-free recipes, but I’d love to hear your favorites!!! What “scares” me is all the different flours recipes call for. I want to keep it simple. PLEASE SHARE YOUR FAVORITE GLUTEN-FREE RECIPES WITH ME!!!! As I learn, in return I’ll share tried and approved recipes with you.

Our Day At The Fresno Chaffee Zoo!

Since this year has been a pretty difficult one (you can read why here), we decided to have a day filled with family fun, so we headed to Fresno to see some family and enjoy a day with some pretty amazing animals.

If you’ve never been to the Fresno Chaffee Zoo, I highly recommend it. This was my first time going, and to be honest I wasn’t expecting it to be super nice. When my husband and I lived in Fort Worth, TX we got spoiled by their zoo, it’s ranked in the top 5 zoos in the United States.

When entering the zoo there is a rather large park area, perfect for our picnic lunch! There were some school groups there for end of the year parties, but it really didn’t take away from our experience. The zoo is big enough to handle pretty large amounts of people.

Our favorite activity was feeding the giraffes. It only costs $2.00 to feed them, and well worth the memories and money. My daughter couldn’t get over the fact that their tongues are black… so funny.

There are lots of places to take great pictures. Here we have my daughter and her cousin sitting inside of a hippos mouth, so of course their mouths had to be opened wide! 🙂

I just LOVE the gorilla poses by my daughter and husband! Anyways, I hope you plan a trip their soon. The price for admission isn’t bad at all.

There is a $5 parking fee when you enter the park.

Park Admission:

Fresno Chaffee Zoo Members: FREE
Adult (ages 12 – 61): $7.00
Children (ages 2 – 11) & Seniors (62+): $3.50
Children (1 year and under): FREE

We brought a picnic lunch in our cooler, so come lunch time we received a stamp on our hand and exited the zoo. Found a picnic table near our cars and enjoyed a wonderful lunch. There are several shade trees and the weather was spectacular! Enjoy your day at the zoo 🙂

Happy Mother’s Day!!!

I hope your day is filled with warmth and love from your little kiddos as they shower you with “mommy love” today! I don’t think there is anything greater than putting all your love and time into your children. Being a stay-at-home mom is so important to me, and I treasure it so dearly each day.

If you are a mom, but don’t have little ones running around to prove it, I know how you feel. I know the heart ache of losing your child to miscarriage or infant loss. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Just a few short weeks ago we lost our precious little baby Kapri. It was heart wrenching to lose such a precious gift, but as a Christian I have the promise of getting to see her again, and I can’t wait to squeeze her and tell her how much I love her! I am a mom, and I value that title greatly 🙂

I hope you have a blessed day!!!

A Sneak Peak Into My Life – Why I’ve Been Away…

by at May 5, 2013 in Faith, Family, My Tips

Over the past 3+ weeks my life has been turned upside down. I went from thinking I had a healthy pregnancy, to learning that I had a beautiful baby girl inside that was not compatible with life due to several complications. It’s the worse news any parent could ever receive. I went into preterm labor 2 weeks ago (I was already extremely high risk at this point), and my Dr. made it clear to us that I needed to be in the hospital immediately.

My precious Kapri Lenea was born April 25th right into the arms of Jesus. She was beautifully small, and had all her fingers and toes. Her little mouth was opened to see her cute little tongue and gums. We marveled over her beauty, and ached over our loss.

I don’t look for sympathy, quite the contrary actually. As a Christian I know where my faith stands. I know that my beautiful baby girl has been made whole. She will never have to suffer on this earth, go through extensive amount of surgeries, like we thought might happen, or have to understand what hurt and pain is.

My husband painted a beautiful picture at her graveside service that she must be dancing in heaven, parading around on the streets of gold with her brother or sister that we lost a year and a half ago. Our oldest daughter LOVES to dance, and asked during one of the songs played if she could get up and dance for everyone, simply precious.

We grieve, but we will heal. I am not in the least bit mad at God. I gained another beautiful daughter that I get to spend eternity with, and I have already grown so much closer to the Lord. We don’t have to understand why things like this happen, we just have to trust that our God is big enough to hold us tightly and believe that His purpose is far greater than ours, no matter how much it hurts.

Thank you for letting me share a little glimpse into my life. I know this has nothing to do with coupons or living frugal, but I thought it was important to share to allow my readers an understanding as to why I was away. I LOVE authoring Save At Home Mommy, and I will continue to share how my family saves money. It’s a true passion of mine, and I hope it becomes your passion too.

This song was played at my daughter’s service, it’s simply beautiful. Job 1:21 And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

A Frugal Indoor Activity For The Kiddos!

by at March 6, 2013 in Entertainment, Family, My Tips

So the weather has gotten cooler today and it’s suppose to rain the next few days. With me on bed rest I knew I needed to come up with some activities for my little one to do, instead of watching TV all day!

Here’s a great one that we did this morning that she absolutely LOVED beyond belief!!! I got the idea from Eyes On The Source called Balloon Tennis! I know I’ve seen this before, but I could never have imagined how much fun it was (until the balloon popped of course!). Thankfully I had a back-up!

image

All you do is take strong paper plates and tape a paint stick to the back. We of course didn’t have any paint sticks, so we used wooden spoons (plastic knives would work too). It worked perfectly (since I could play while sitting on the couch), and it was so much fun!

Walla! So when it rains tomorrow make sure you have this activity ready, it’ll keep your kiddos occupied for quite a while!
