A New Month Begins Tomorrow!
by Save at Home Mommy at March 31, 2011 in Finances, Organization, Planning Ahead, Printable Coupons
We are yet another month down and closer to summer! I have to say, I am very ready for the warmer weather and change of pace. Before the new month begins, here are a few reminders of end of the month tasks in the coupon world:
1. Now is a good time to go through all your coupons and pull out all the ones that are expired or will expire soon. Many expire at the end of the month and especially the end of the year!
2. The next few days are great for printing coupons. The ones from March might be gone soon, so print all you want today. The first of the month is when many sites release new coupons, so you will want to check them all at the beginning of April to see what new ones they roll out or refresh from last month.
3. Make sure all your Single Check Rebate receipts for Rite Aid are entered so you can request your check.
4. Get all your receipts in order so that you can add up all your spending and saving for month and tweak your budget for next month if need be.
5. Make sure you have ordered all the Swagbucks prizes you wanted. They have limits on how many of each one that you can order in a day or month so if you are stocking up, make sure you ordered all you could for December and then order your limits for January.

Surviving The Holidays On A Budget
by Save at Home Mommy at November 29, 2010 in Budgetting, Planning Ahead
As Christmas is now upon us, our anxiety can increase over our budgets and how much more we usually spend on extra food, gifts, decorations and all the other things that come along with holiday celebrations. Instead of being stressed, having a plan in place can help your holidays go smoothly and leave you feeling good about your budget when January rolls around. Here are some practical steps you can take to make this happen.
-
Get out and evaluate your Christmas budget that we talked about back in July. If you weren’t around for that or didn’t get it done, check out the post HERE to get caught up. Make sure that you did not forget anyone!
-
Go ahead and cross off any gifts that you have been able to pick up along the way with sales throughout the year. You might find that you already have enough money or only need a little more once you eliminate the things you already have.
-
Start planning any meals or parties you will host or attend over the holidays. Think of what you might make and keep a list on hand so you can buy those ingredients as they go on sale. Often, several weeks before the holidays, the stores will have great sales and stock up opportunities. If you wait until just before, things will be more expensive. Planning ahead can really save you time and money. You will also not be left running to the store several times to pick up all the little things you need at full price.
-
Take stock of all of your wrapping and decorating supplies. You may have all sorts of things you forgot about. That way you don’t go out and buy multiples or things you don’t need. If you don’t wrap your presents until Christmas Eve, wait until the last minute to get wrapping paper. Often a few days before Christmas, stores will start clearancing their wrapping supplies and you can avoid paying higher prices.
-
I recommend setting aside some of your budget to use after Christmas is over. This way, you can buy things such as wrapping supplies, decorations and even gifts for the next year when they are reduced to 75% off or more and set them aside for the next year.
