Tip Tuesday: Natural Dishwasher Cleanser!

Dishwashers can get pretty grimy and gross from all the food particles, and who wants to clean their dishes in a dirty unit, NOT ME! Dishwasher cleaners can be costly, so why not use things you already own to clean it. In a dishwasher safe bowl combined 1 cup vinegar with 1 Tbsp. baking soda, place it on the top rack of your dishwasher and run a normal hot cycle. You can also use apple cider vinegar if you don’t have distilled. It’s that easy and frugal!!! Now, go clean your dishwashers because it’s just another way to maintain good hygiene in your kitchen!

Lets face it, laundry is apart of our everyday life. So, lets get some use out of those dryer sheets after they’ve been tumbling in the dryer. Simply take it out of the dryer and use it to dust one piece of furniture or your electronics. This way, you can stay ahead, and in between dusting days, your house will still look fresh and clean. I have definitely put this tip to practice and it works!

Also, check out this post on 25 Uses For Dryer Sheets. They have a lot of great information and tips that I’m going to have to try!

What To Do With Leftover Party Utensils and Napkins!

This post may seem a little strange to you, but let me explain. Do you ever have leftover plastic utensils and napkins leftover at parties or get togethers? I know I do, so I decided to wrap them up and get them ready for our weekly lunches. I pack my husbands lunch almost everyday for work and I’m always grabbing loose plastic utensils for him. Then it dawned on me to wrap them up and get them ready. I had some leftover twist ties, so I used those, but rubber bands would work too.

This is a great project for your kids too. Mine are a little mismatched, but that doesn’t matter. Enjoy your Saturday!!!!

Tip Tuesday: Do you have an ant problem?!?

I know that this may seem like a weird topic, but really just hear me out. When I was pregnant with my now 2 year old, our apartment had an ant problem. Not a bad one, but I could definitely see the army march of ants going from my kitchen to the bathroom, GROSS! I didn’t want harsh chemicals though in my apartment while pregnant, so I started doing some research and found that ants hate cinnamon and lemon! So I sprinkled cinnamon around the base boards, and I mopped with lemon scented cleaner. It worked like a charm! So I tell you this because ants are a nuisance and I want you to know how you can take care of the problem without using harsh chemicals! Happy Tuesday!

Tip Tuesday: How To Make Homemade Vinegar Cleaner Smell Better!

by at November 29, 2011 in Household, Household Tips

Ok I will be the first to tell you that I have not tried this, but it sounds like such a great idea that I’m willing to give it a shot. When my husband and I were in Seminary we were BROKE! So I went to the store (pre-couponing days) and bought a bottle of distilled vinegar and a box of baking soda. The only problem with my cleaning technique was my husband HATED the smell of vinegar, so I had to stop cleaning with these products to keep him from gagging when he would come home. I never thought that I could put herbs or essential oils in the vinegar cleaner to make it smell better, brilliant!

Ingredients:

Fresh or Dried Herbs

Vinegar

Water

Bottle to store in

Directions:

To your bottle add as much or as little herbs. The more herbs, the stronger the smell. Add only vinegar to the bottle, seal, and put in a dark place for 10 days. Then, put the vinegar through a strainer to get all the herbs out, and make your cleaner with equal parts vinegar and water. This is a basic all-purpose household cleaner! Hope this tip helps you live a more frugal and greener lifestyle!

Wow, why didn’t I think of this! My house didn’t come with a lot of storage, so I’ll take all the help and advice I can get. LOVE this idea. Purchase some scrapbook paper holder organizers (at Walmart, Target, Hobby Lobby, just to name a few), and use them to store your cutting boards or your handi-wrap, foil, Ziploc bags, and more. If you can think of any other uses let me know.

Thanks, Chica And Jo for this great idea!
