Have You Tried Smarty Rents Yet?

A month or so ago, we had a giveaway for SmartyRents.com. When they approached me about the giveaway I was eager to try it out myself since my oldest daughter has a Leapster. We are always hesitant to fork out the money for the games not knowing whether or not she will like them or if they will be appropriate for her age. SmartyRents allows you to rent games for several large educational gaming systems. You can choose from different subscriptions options depending on your children and how many games you want to have at a time. We have the one game at a time option and my little girl has really liked it. I set up the account and then sat down with her and let her look through the games for her age. You add them to your account in the order of preference and then the first one comes. It comes in an cardboard mailer that you tear the front off of and then reveal the prepaid portion for you to send your game back in. When you send that game back, the next game on your list is automatically shipped out to you. It is so nice to know that as soon as she gets bored, I can send the game back and get a new one all for a fraction of what I would spend on buying them. You can keep the games as long as you want and they even have the option to buy it if your child just can’t live without it. If your child is into their educational game, I think this is well worth the subscription to keep them in games that they are learning from without breaking your bank!

Fun And FREE Kids Ideas

I don’t know about you but having both my girls at home everyday has rocked my world a little. OK, a lot:) It is so hard for them to adjust to being at home all the time instead of in their normal routine. We only have on car, so we are home most of the time. Here are a few ideas that I tried out that were fun for my girls and a good break from just hanging out.

I don’t know how well you will be able to see the picture above but my girls are all about clues and treasures. One day, I had the idea to send them on a hunt to find a treasure. I drew pictures of different places in our house and put an X on the spot where they were to look. Each clue led them to another clue until they were led to look under my bed and find 2 yummy suckers. They thought it was so cool and my 5 year old then went and made a hunt for her daddy with a little help from me. You can make it as complex or as simple as you need to depending on the age of your kids.

When I was little, I always thought it was so much fun to make forts! I knew my little girls would think it was so fun to have one of their own. I just pushed back all the chairs from our formal dining room table and laid blankets all over it. They put their favorite toys and lovey things in it and spent most of the morning in and out of the fort. All it cost me was a few minutes of clean up but was well worth it for the amount of time that it kept them occupied.

Marcus Theatres Summer Film Series

The Marcus Theatres Kids Rule Summer Film Series will run from June 23rd through August 12th on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Tickets are $2.75 each, which is a little higher than the free or close-to-free deals we’ve found at other theaters, but popcorn is included in the price of these tickets and the movies shown are slightly more current.

All movies start at 10am, but be sure to get there early as these will probably fill up quickly. The film series starts tomorrow (Wednesday, June 23) with How to Train Your Dragon.
