The Best Blog Birthday Gift EVER!
by admin at February 18, 2010 in From Me, Giving Back
At the beginning of the week if you had asked me what I wanted for my blog birthday, I would have said more traffic or income but yesterday I got way more than that! Yesterday was our SaveAtHomeMommy day to volunteer at FLOOD here in Bakersfield to get a Disney ticket through their new promotion this year. There was a time when I stopped and looked out at the 30 or so people that were there and tears welled up in my eyes. I can not believe that God chose me to start a silly little blog that would become what it has. To see the hundreds of food and hygiene packs filled and prepared to hand out to people in our community in need was overwhelming. I was so honored and humbled that God saw fit to use me and my site in this amazing way. I did a horrible job at photo taking, I am so sorry! I wish I had better ones.
I want to continue to work with FLOOD in whatever ways I can to help them out. I found out today that they purchase all the food and toiletries each week to put in these packs. I could not believe that. Most of these items can be picked up at the dollar store but even better, can be purchased for FREE with coupons and sales.
I am now going to try to mark items in my deals lists when I find them, that can be donated to them with a link to a page with all their information. I hope we are able to work with them much more in the future to impact our community in a very needed and easy way!
Thank you to all of you who had a part in my great birthday gift, it meant more than you know.
Don’t Forget Our FLOOD Day Tomorrow
by admin at February 16, 2010 in Giving Back
![]()
Just a quick reminder to all of you who have registered on the Disney Website that tomorrow at 12:00noon is our time to volunteer to pack bags for FLOOD’s Saturday night distribution. Please remember to bring your minimum of 5 items from their list and I would love for us to all bring more! I will see you all then and remember, this is only for those of you who registered through the Disney website already.
Amazing Opportunity for Local Readers
by admin at January 26, 2010 in Bakersfield Deals, Giving Back
I mentioned last week that I had a little surprise I was working on for you guys and I am happy to finally have it all figured out to announce to you. I just love surprises!
OK, so when I saw that Disney’s promotion for this year was that you could volunteer and get a FREE ticket to Disney I was so excited. I immediately contacted FLOOD here in Bakersfield to try and work something out for my readers and we have arranged a pretty sweet deal.
On Wednesday, February 17th at 12:00noon, 25 readers will be able to meet at FLOOD’s warehouse, armed with a MINIMUM of 5 items from their donation list, to help pack the bags that they distribute at their weekly gatherings for about an hour. After doing this, we will receive the info from Disney on receiving our free ticket. You can go to the Disney site HERE to learn more about the program and all the requirements.
FLOOD has been very gracious to arrange this is such a way as to give my readers the first chance at this opportunity. Here is how it will work:
~~ Up to 50 people will be able to register with me, through the form below, with their name and email address.
~~ Just before FLOOD posts the opportunity on the Disney website, those 50 people will get emails letting them know.
~~ The first 25 people that register on the Disney website will get the spots.
A few things to note:
Children are eligible to participate as long as they are 8 or older. Make sure they are registered as well.
Other children are not permitted to come to FLOOD as we will be working in a warehouse and there will be no supervision.
The limit is 25 people so once those spots are full, the registration will be closed.
The list of items to bring to donate are as listed below. These are a general guideline. Items similar to these guidelines will be fine.
Food Items:
Boxed Crackers
Chili (pop top)
Boxed Cereal Bars
Canned Fruit (pop-top)
Top Ramen
SPAM
Cup O Noodles
Peanut Butter (small size)
Saltine Crackers
Vienna Sausage
Plastic Jelly (small size)
Ravioli (pop top) (or a similar item)
Progresso Soup (pop top) (or a similar item)
Microwave Popcorn
Granola Bars
Austin Crackers
Hygiene Packs:
Toothbrush
Toothpaste
Razors

**I have posted this early so that we can begin stocking up on donation items now and totally overwhelm them with how much we are able to donate. I will be posting notes next to products that are great for donating when I come across them.
You must fill out the form once for each person including any children over 8.
Help For Haiti
by admin at January 18, 2010 in Faith, Giving Back
Our challenge for giving to Haiti is set to end today at 12:00noon PST, but honestly, I don’t know if it will:) I was unsure about how many people would respond when we first started it. Honestly, I am surprised that I have not gotten more comments and would love to be blown away by the response.
I was reminded again yesterday at church, that our amazing and loving God is in control even in the midst of devastation. He has a plan for Haiti and for the whole world, far beyond what we can see or imagine.
So please, pray pray pray, and give! Whatever amount you can afford, is way more than they had before. When you do give, go to my post HERE to leave a comment and then go to the other sites linked to leave your comments there as well. Just by giving $5.00, you could easily turn it into $20 or much more, just by leaving your comments!

Donate Your SwagBucks to Haiti Disaster Relief
by admin at January 15, 2010 in Giving Back, Swagbucks
Looking for another way to help? Swagbucks has set up a program where instead of buying gift cards or prizes, you can use them to help. Here is what their site says:
“SwagNation has shown an outpouring of sympathy across all our online communities, asking how they can help. Here’s your chance to use your Swag Bucks to support a great cause. Please consider donating some of your Swag Bucks to our Haiti Earthquake Relief Fund. All Swag Bucks we collect will go directly toward a donations to three major relief organizations:
* American Red Cross
* Doctors Without Borders
* Yele.org (Wyclef Jean’s relief effort)”
This is a great way to give even if you don’t have much money to spare. So sign up or log into your SwagBucks account and give! And, don’t forget about our challenge where my husband and I will give .50 for every reader who donates and then leaves a comment on the post HERE saying they have done so.

Helping Haiti Challenge!
by admin at January 15, 2010 in Giving Back
OK, there are so many different options going on out there with fellow frugal bloggers to get the ball rolling and help get relief to Haiti. I know you have all seen the pictures of the devastation that has occurred there all over the TV and internet. I could hardly stand it last night when I saw a reporter standing there talking to a woman who was in pretty bad shape while the body of a little child laid next to them barely covered by a thin piece of cloth. To know how widespread this is is unbelievable and there is so much we can do to help!
Consider this. If you are doing the Eating From the Pantry Challenge, use your extra money to donate!
Crystal at Money Saving Mom has put together a challenge and has tons of other bloggers linked as well, that can stretch your donation even further. By giving whatever you can and then commenting on their posts, your donation will be multiplied. She personally will donate .30 for every comment left about donating and $10.00 for every blogger who posts about it. My friend Ashley at Frugal Coupon Living is also donating $1.00 for every person who comments that they have donated.
Where can you donate? I will make it easy for you. Just click the links below to go and contribute to the organization or your choice. I know for sure that either of these organizations are reputable and your donation will go straight to the cause!
World Help
Samaritans Purse
Red Cross
If you can do nothing more, please pray for Haiti and all those that have been touched by this tragedy. Your prayers can do more than our money ever could!
What will I do? My husband and I will personally give .50 for every comment left on this post saying that you have donated to the cause through one of the links above. I know that might not seem like much but hopefully you guys will overwhelm me with your comments and our donation will be great! The donation time will end when we feel like we can give no more:)
Now get out there and donate and then go around and leave comments to stretch that donation even further!
A Great Way to Give and Receive!
by admin at December 22, 2009 in Giveaways, Giving Back
I was contacted today about a great program and how we can be involved. They have also offered a giveaway to get the word out. Check it out:
“For years, PŪR and the Children’s Safe Drinking Water (CSDW) Program have been working together to ensure that people around the world have clean water to drink – in the U.S. with PŪR Water Filtration Systems and in developing countries with PŪR water cleaning technology. Because of this expertise, PŪR was invited to join a new clean water charity initiative – SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT: Kilimanjaro. PŪR is excited to partner with SUMMIT and bring major attention to the global water situation while providing even more people with access to clean drinking water.
About SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT
· This coming January, celebrities and educators will embark on a charity climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa, in a new effort called “SUMMIT ON THE SUMMIT,” which will raise awareness both about the need for clean drinking water, as well as funds for life-saving water programs in the developing world. *The program was created by Grammy-nominated musician, Kenna, whose father nearly lost his life as a child after contracting a water-borne disease from drinking contaminated water
How you can JOIN THE CAUSE
· A portion of the proceeds from the climb will go to benefit the CSDW Program. Anyone in the U.S. can join the climb and the clean drinking water cause by purchasing a PŪR pitcher or faucet mount system. Purchasing a PŪR system will donate a week’s worth of clean drinking water to children in need in the developing world.
· Donations from purchases of PUR pitchers and faucet mounts will go towards the CSDW goal of providing more than 4 billion liters of clean drinking water in the developing world from 2007-2012, preventing an estimated 160 million days of diarrheal illness and saving an estimated 20,000 lives. For additional program details, visit PURWater.com.”
The Giveaway
In order to help get the word out about this program, Pur is offering one reader a Pur Water Pitcher. Entering is easy, fill out the from below once for each time you enter. All your information will be kept private and not be shared without your consent so please feel free to be honest.
This giveaway has now ended and the winner will be announced on Wednesday 1/6.
