Weekend Project: Make A Hair Bow Holder
by Aimee at October 1, 2011 in Decorating, Household
When it comes to making a hair bow holder there are many styles out there. Basically it’s a long piece of ribbon attached to something that you clip your hair bows onto. I made one for my daughter and I love it! Michael’s crafts has all the supplies you need when making one and you can use your 40% to make it an even better deal! Here are a few examples of what hair bow holders can look like.
No more hair bows stuffed in drawers. Now they can be displayed in style! Have a great weekend!
Thrifty Thursday: Festive Fall Candles
by Aimee at September 29, 2011 in Decorating, Household
This is a great craft project you can do with your children! You can find lovely fall scented candles at Walmart or possibly even the Dollar Tree. Also, when buying dry lentils go to WinCo or to another grocery store that has a bulk section. This way you are maximizing your savings, and still achieving an awesome fall look. For the full instructions on how to make these go HERE.

Weekend Project: Kitchen Chalkboard
by Aimee at September 17, 2011 in Decorating, Do It Yourself, Household, Mommy Tips
I have wanted a chalkboard in my kitchen for some time now. So, I finally decided to do my research as to how much one of these cost. I couldn’t believe these stores charging around $40.00 or more for this (Pottery Barn charges $149.00!!!). I would never pay that much! So, I went to Walmart and Home Depot, and bought some supplies. I found this 20X24 “fake” wooden frame at Walmart for $7.00 on a clearance shelf. I bought a thin piece of smooth particle board (without a grain) at Home Depot for $2.50 and 1 can of chalkboard spray paint for $4.67. First, my husband cut the particle board to fit inside my frame, then we spray painted it (2 coats).
Total cost: $15.17. I’m very proud of my chalkboard!
Just think how much cheaper this project could be if you already owned a frame, or go to a thrift shop to find a picture frame for cheap. If you end up making one, I want to see a picture! Have a great weekend!
Thrifty Thursday: Inexpensive Homemade Fall Wreath!
by Aimee at September 15, 2011 in Decorating, Do It Yourself, Household, Mommy Tips
Did you know that the first day of fall is next week!?! I’ve cheated though and have already been decorating my house and enjoying my pumpkin spice candle! So, with all the fall decorations already getting picked over, I’ve already been busy getting some good deals. Fall wreaths tend to be very expensive, so I did some research and made my own! The total cost for my wreath was $9.00, and I bought almost everything I needed at the Dollar Tree.
Dollar Tree:
1 Wooden Wreath- $1.00
2 Glittery Fall Leaf Vines- $2.00
3 Gurber Daisy Looking Flower Bunches- $3.00
2 Accenting Flower Bunches To Coordinate- $2.00
Walmart:
1 Scrap Piece of Brown Fabric- $.98
I already owned the ribbon, brown thread, buttons, brown spray paint, and an accenting piece of brown fabric.
Directions:
To make the fabric flowers I followed this tutorial HERE.
I first spray painted the wreath brown.
Hot glue the leaf vines around the wreath. With the ends I used the thread to tie them to the wooden wreath. The vines have little loops on the ends to make it much easier to tie.
Hot glue the fabric flowers where you want them to be, then hot glue and tie the remaining flowers on. I tucked the flower bunches under the fabric flowers to give a natural look.
When making your wreath be creative and have fun! Make it your own creation. This is just a starting point for you! I just want you to know that you can make a fall wreath that can be very inexpensive to create. I want to see pictures of your wreaths when you are all done, with the total cost!
